Workshops
Every year, Insight Inishowen hosts accredited training workshops in suicide prevention including: safeTALK, ASIST and Understanding Self Harm:
safeTALK is an internationally-recognised half-day training programme that prepares participants to recognise and engage with people who may be having thoughts of suicide and to connect them to suicide first aid resources. Safe Talk trained helpers can help and take action by supporting people to connect with life-saving resources, supports and services. We now have our own in-house safeTALK trainer and can facilitate workshops for groups and businesses on request.
ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a two day intensive, interactive workshop where participants develop their skills through simulations and role-playing in order to become more ready, willing and able to help people at risk of suicide. Participants must be available to complete both days training in order to receive their certificate.
To register your interest for any of these courses please email insightinishowen@gmail.com.
Understanding Self Harm is a one-day training designed to raise awareness for individuals and agencies who seek to understand more about self-harm, the reasons underlying self-harm behaviours and improve upon personal and agency responses to those who self-harm. The training is supportive of Connecting for Life in aiming to reduce the stigma of self-harm, improve awareness and sensitivity to self-harm issues and promote effective care services for those who self-harm. The programme seeks to promote the principles of respect, understanding and choice, and is suitable for parents, teachers, youth workers, health workers, HR professionals or for individuals concerned about the wellbeing of friends or family.
Our next course will be Understanding Self Harm which will take place in Buncrana on Wednesday 14 September in the Railway room, Inishowen Gateway Hotel, Buncrana at 9am.
